Job Desc: SUMMARY: Provide engineering design, analysis, and support documentation suitable for FAA and customer approval for moderately complex repairs on aircraft or components during maintenance or modification programs. Duties will include management of task assignments independently with assignments from a Project Lead or Engineering Management, development and approval of Engineering documents, providing assistance for less-experienced Engineering staff, and interaction with different members of internal and external organizations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop and implement solutions to Engineering issues for all types of problems. • Analyze and substantiate moderately complex repair designs using standard accepted industry practices. Produce technical analysis for which FAA approval can be obtained which will ensure compliance with all appropriate regulatory, customer, OEM, ATS, and maintenance requirements. • Ensures and confirms that all applicable customer, OEM, regulatory, and maintenance requirements are met. • Approve engineering documents within authorized signatory level. • Train and assist other Engineers in performance of their assigned tasks. • Participates in the development of work statements and hour estimates in support of proposals. • Represent ATS on engineering technical matters with OEM‘s, customers, operators and regulatory authorities. • Interacts in a professional manner with members of internal and external organizations. • Independently evaluate, select, and adapt situations, and modify techniques, procedures and criteria to solve problems encountered. • Monitors and approves Engineering use of Customer, OEM, and other technical data to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulations and requirements. • Ensure projects are accomplished within a reasonable time frame as defined by a Project Lead or by Engineering Management. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Position may require overnight travel, being on-call, and responding to technical AOG situations during off hours. • Assist Engineering Management with additional tasks when business needs arise. • Perform other duties as assigned. In addition to the duties listed above, this position may require additional engineering duties and requirements as follows: • Review existing technical data, technical drawings, and previous history for entire airframe structure; avionics, indication, lighting, and electrical systems; mechanical / hydraulic systems and components; engine pylon/struts; and landing gear. • Provide written technical accomplishment instructions for aircraft repairs or modifications to maintenance, customer, and regulatory authorities as necessary. • Communicate technical details of repair or modification designs through technical writing and computer drafting functions. • Coordinates and assists in implementing new policies and procedures within the Engineering department to help improve efficiency. • Leads activities of direct Engineering staff at the discretion of Engineering Management to achieve accurate and timely completion of repairs and modifications during maintenance and component overhaul visits. • Plans, reviews, organizes, and prioritizes engineering tasks to ensure Engineering completes tasks and maintains responsiveness in order to maintain aircraft, component, and engineering program schedules. • Provides primary point of contact between customer representatives and/or internal customers and Goodrich Engineering to ensure consistent action in accordance with customer requirements. • Carries out the policies and procedures of ATS, and ATS Engineering and notifies Engineering Management when these procedures are not followed. AUTHORITY: Initiate technical instructions that are substantiated by data acceptable to or approved by the FAA. For technical instruction pertaining to work accomplished on aircraft or components operated under FAR Part 121, authority is as specified by the air carriers procedures. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: N/A SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY: Duties shall include observing all company, health, safety and environmental rules, ensuring that you are provided with full information on your area specific safety issues, all unique hazards are identified, and you are provided with the proper equipment to carry out your job in a safe manner. Also, the entire work area must be maintained to a high standard of housekeeping and low incidence of physical hazards and all accidents must be promptly reported to your supervisor or manager. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in an environment where limited standardization exists. • Must be adaptable and flexible at all times and apply their knowledge and skills to develop creative solutions to a wide variety of unique design, modification, and repair problems encountered. • Strong PC skills will include e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, communications, operating systems, and basic computer drafting skills. • Ability to accomplish stress analysis and substantiation for complex repairs or modifications using standard accepted industry practices and other structural design methodologies. • Ability to understand Regulatory requirements for airworthiness, for the FAA and various foreign authorities (JAA, JAR, CAA, DGAC, CAAC, etc.) and include in engineering documents, drawings and designs. • Ability to understand and promote the policies / procedures of ATS, and ATS Engineering. • Ability to understand and apply the policies / procedures of all customer(s). • Ability to understand and apply information from Structural Repair Manuals (SRMs), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (MMs), Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPCs), Service Bulletins (SBs) and other aircraft reference materials. • Ability to interpret and use aircraft manufacturing, assembly, and installation drawings. • Assertive communication skills are required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor‘s degree in an Engineering Discipline (Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering preferred)
